I Heart the 80s

GPS & Geocaching

Last year I took a class from the UEN (Utah Education Network) about using GPS units in my classroom. We also learned about geocaching. To learn more about geocaching, click HERE. Another geography teacher, Sheradee, and I decided to hide a geocache and place three travel bugs in it. Travel bugs are like dog tags with I.D. numbers. We attached these travel bugs to small toys. These toys and travel bugs then travel around the world. These items travel via other geocachers who pick them up and redeposit them in different caches around the globe. Our travel bugs have traveled to Hawaii, Washington D.C., Germany, Italy, and Australia. Fellow geocachers have taken pictures of our toys/travel bugs and posted our pictures on the geocache website. Old School Friends

Last weekend, I went out with some old friends from high school to celebrate Val's birthday. We had tons of fun!! I hadn't laughed so hard in a long time; my checks were sore from laughing so hard. Thanks for being such great friends. We will have to do it again sometime soon. Here are a few pictures from our good times.

Over Easter weekend, Lesli and I drove to Arizona to stay in with my parents. We had tons of fun. We went to dinner with Mary and Tara. We also went shopping with Tara and Celeste. We went swimming, to the temple, and to the LDS Easter pageant. We spent time with my parents and my grandparents. We also attended church with Mary and had a very interesting testimony meeting. It was loads of fun. Here are a few pictures from our travels.

This One's for You

Yesterday our lesson in Relief Society was on testimonies. This particular quote by President Kimball reminded me of a dear friend (I think you know who you are):

"Testimony meetings are some of the best meetings in the [Church] in the whole month, if you have the spirit. If you are bored at a testimony meeting, there is something the matter with you, and not the other people. You can get up and bear your testimony and you think it is the best meeting in the month; but if you sit there and count the grammatical errors and laugh at the man who can’t speak very well, you’ll be bored."

As I Search the Holy Scriptures

Yesterday, as I was reading the Book of Mormon, I came across these verses (Helaman 3:27-30). I've probably read them a dozen times, but they really stood out to me last night so I thought I'd share them.

"Thus we may see that the Lord is merciful unto all who will, in the sincerity of their hearts, call upon his holy name. Yea, thus we see that the gate of heaven is open unto all, even to those who will believe on the name of Jesus Christ, who is the Son of God. Yea, we see that whosoever will may lay hold upon the word of God, which is quick and powerful, which shall divide asunder all the cunning and the snares and the wiles of the devil, and lead the man of Christ in a strait and narrow course across that everlasting gulf of misery which is prepared to engulf the wicked. And land their souls, yea, their immortal souls, at the right hand of God in the kingdom of heaven, to sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and with Jacob, and with all our holy fathers, to go no more out."

Arizona, Here I Come

Today after work, Lesli and I are hitting the road for Phoenix, AZ. We'll stop in Page, AZ tonight and drive the rest of the way tomorrow. I'm really excited!! Warm weather, bathing suits, swimming, Easter candy, and seeing old friends - what could be better? Nothing!! Well, maybe if we were flying. While we are down there, we are going to the Easter Pageant at the Mesa temple. I've seen it many times and it's fantastic. To learn more about it, click HERE and HERE.

My Celeb Look-Alikes

What do Nicole Kidman, Candace Cameron, Lauren Graham, Kate Bosworth, and Evangeline Lilly have in common? Apparently, they all look like ME!!

This was a fun website. And, I think, somewhat true. I have had several people tell me throughout my life that I look like Candace Cameron (I think they were referring to her awkward early years on "Full House," but oh well).

I Kid You Not

Yesterday I went to Seagull Book and Tape to buy a new journal. I wanted a nice, religious journal to write thoughts and ideas I had during scripture study, temple attendance, etc. I found a beautiful red journal with beige, leather binding. On the cover it read, "My Work and My Glory." I flipped through the journal and noticed that it had scriptures and quotes scattered throughout the journal. I didn't take a real close look, but it looked perfect so I bought it. When I got home I took a closer look. The more I looked, the more I loved it. It contained some of my favorite scriptures from the Bible and the Book of Mormon. It also contained great quotes. Not all of the quotes were from LDS people, but they were inspiring quotes by notable, historical people. Some of these people included Thomas Paine, C.S. Lewis, Ann Frank, and Gandhi.

This is where the "I Kid You Not" part comes in. Now, I'll be the first to admit, I'm not a Harry Potter Fan, nor do I know much about the series. However, as I was reading these inspiring scriptures and quotes, I read a quote and noticed that it was attributed to Albus Dumbledore. I thought, "What?" Isn't that a fictional character from Harry Potter. I asked Lesli, a fanatical Harry Potter fan, and she confirmed it. I couldn't believe it. This journal was filled with the Word of God, words from important historical figures, and a fictional wizard. Ridiculous. Ridiculously funny, that is.

A New Bike

I've been thinking of getting a new bike for the past month, but I didn't know what kind of bike to buy. When I asked my mom for advice, she told me my Aunt Jeanine had a really nice bike and I should ask her what kind it was. Because Jeanine is pregnant I thought she might let me borrow this nice bike of hers until she has her baby in August. When I asked her if I could borrow it, she said I could have it!! Yes!! Here are a few pictures of me with my new bike.

The Holiday

Over Christmas Break, Katrina, Lesli, and I saw the movie, The Holiday, twice in the theatres. We loved it so much that we threw a little party last Tuesday when it was released on DVD. And when I say party, I mean we ate dinner and watched it.

Have You Done Any Good in the World Today? Yes, I Have.

I don't have a camera, but luckily, Lesli does. She has been taking pictures of our adventures over the past couple weeks. We have had tons of fun. Some people have said our house is fun central. And when I say some people, I mean Lesli and me (and honorary roommate - you know who you are). Here are pictures of us doing a service project - we were coloring alphabet books that will be sent to third world countries. Why is it necessary for these books to be in English, we have no idea (especially when they're going to Latin America).

Yes!! I Win!!

For the past few weeks, Lesli and I have been competing with each other in a Cribbage Tournament. The player who reached seven wins first, won the tournament. Tonight I won. That's right, me. The Novice. Lesli wasn't too happy about it. I think I might have turned her off the game. She is a fierce competitor. In fact, she had never lost a tournament - that is until now.

The Ultimate Gift

This weekend I saw the movie, The Ultimate Gift. The movie had a few slow parts and some odd twists and turns, but ultimately, I loved it!! With so many smutty, meaningless movies out there, it was nice to see a decent movie with heart and a good message. If you're looking for something to see, I highly recommend it.
