Fiesta

Last week, my roommates and I threw a combined birthday fiesta for our friends, Katrina and Matt. I think it went smashingly. We decorated with festive fiesta colors, including a few mini-pinatas and a streamers of chilis. I made 7-layer dip and pina coladas and Alina made sopapillas. It was good times. Here's a few pictures:

Top Candidates

I found a website that helps you find the 2008 presidential candidate that best aligns with your beliefs. It was pretty interesting. I don't know if it's slanted a certain way, but I've read about a lot of different people getting varied results. Take the quiz - it only takes about a minute. I'd be interested in knowing what you got. To take the quiz, click HERE.

Obviously, my top candidates were Democrats followed by Republicans. My top three candidates were Mike Gravel (92%), Dennis Kucinich (92%), and Bill Richardson (78%). It kind of surprised me because I have been supporting Bill Richardson from the beginning.

My bottom three candidates: Sam Brownback (15%), Mitt Romney (11%), and Duncan Hunter (3%)

For All My Teacher Friends. . .

You know you're a teacher when:
  1. You can hear 25 voices behind you and know exactly who it belongs to.
  2. You get a secret thrill out of laminating something.
  3. You have 25 people that accidentally call you mom/dad at one time or another.
  4. You can eat a multi-course meal in under twenty-five minutes.
  5. You've trained yourself to go to the bathroom at two distinct times of the day: lunch and conference period
  6. You start saving other people's trash, because most likely, you can use that toilet paper tube or plastic butter tub for something in the classroom.
  7. You believe the teachers' lounge should be equipped with a margarita machine.
  8. You want to slap the next person who says "Must be nice to work 7:15 to 3:15 and have summers off".
  9. You believe chocolate is a food group.
  10. You can tell if it's a full moon without ever looking outside.
  11. You feel the urge to talk to strange children and correct their behavior when you are out in public.
  12. You are secretly addicted to hand sanitizer.

Fall Season

The Fall Season doesn't officially begin until September 23, but for me, the Fall Season begins tomorrow: Monday, September 17th. "Why?" you may ask. Because that's when FOX begins it's Fall Season line-up with one of my favorite shows, Prison Break. And soon after, all the networks will follow with more of my favorite shows from the past and promising shows that will premier this season. YES!! Let the Fall Season begin.

Those close to me know how much I love TV. It is one reason why Fall is my favorite season. Now, don't get me wrong; I love a lot of things about fall - school begins, my Fall wardrobe (I do love a nice sweater), pumpkins, trees of yellow and orange - All of these make Fall great, but Fall just wouldn't be the same without the beginning of a new television season.

The returning programs I'm super excited for:
  • Prison Break
  • Heroes
  • Grey's Anatomy
  • The Office
  • LOST (which doesn't return until February, but I'm still including it).

The new programs that have peeked my interest:

  • Private Practice
  • Kid Nation
  • Life

Programs I'll DVR, but won't watch religiously:

  • NCIS
  • Beauty and the Geek
  • CSI: NY
  • Ugly Betty

US Postal Service

Yesterday as I was checking my mailbox at school, I noticed I had a letter that was marked, "Return to Sender." I recognized my handwriting and noticed that I was, in fact, the sender. Then I looked at the person it was addressed to. It gave the name of a student I had over 2 years ago; that's right, during the 2004-2005 school year. "What?!" I thought. I looked again. Sure enough, the post mark stamp read, "May 21, 2005." Now, I know everyone makes fun of the postal service, and up until this time I had no reason to join in on the jokes. I repeat . . . Up until this time.

I do not own a camera (shocking, I know) so I am at the mercy of my friends for pictures. Today Christi sent me a bunch of past pictures. Here are a few:

We went to see Thoroughly Modern Milly.

We went to see Goonies at Herriman's movie in the park.

A Couple More Thoughts . . .

  • Stardust and The Invasion. These were excellent movies to end the summer. They haven't got much play in the media, but I give them two thumbs up!! The funniest part in Stardust was watching Robert DeNiro as the cross-dressing pirate, Captian Shakespeare. Watch the clip. I found it quite funny.

  • I hate being sick. I think I have a sinus infection. I can't breath; I can't smell; I can't taste. I hate it. I started feeling sick on the first day of school - Maybe I'm allergic to teenagers. (That could be a problem in my profession)

  • Psych. Although this series has been on USA for a year, I have just now discovered it. It is a hilarious comedy about fake psychic, Shawn Spencer. Shawn is hired by the police to help solve crimes after he convinces him of his "psychic abilities." The show is full of funny 80's pop culture references. Watch the 30 second advertisement.

  • Three-Day Weekends. Love them!!
